Community - Introduction
Written by Colin

You may ask why we make such a big deal about the community aspects of our activities - the simple reason is that, for centuries, pagan practice has been driven underground through the misinformation, laws and superstition.

Whilst the laws were repealed in the 1950's the misinformation and superstition prevailed keeping the fast-growing community fragmented and working in small, secretive groups. This secrecy further added fuel to the concerns from non-pagans about the wiered/satanic etc practices.

Thanks to many over the last fifty years - through book publishing, TV interview and public activities the cloak has been slowly taken down. In the last ten years we have seen european legislation provide protection for pagan religious practice - finally making it completely safe for public pagan practice.

The mission of The Coven is therefore to help pagans 'come-out' and to finally meet and share their spirituality and beliefs with other pagans. Since opening the doors to 'The Coven' our expectations about the size of the local pagan community have been proven but almost every person who has found the shop at some point tells us that 'they thought they were the only pagans in the area'. Well, they were not, and neither are you!
